Equipment

  • Hand mixer or sturdy spoon
  • Mixing bowl
  • Serving dish

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce plus extra for drizzling on top
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • apple slices for serving

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and free of lumps, about 1 minute.
  • Add the brown sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat until fully combined and the mixture looks light and creamy.
  • Add the caramel sauce and beat again until the dip is smooth and evenly colored, with no streaks of cream cheese remaining.
  • Transfer the dip to a serving dish and smooth the top with the back of a spoon.
  • Drizzle a little extra caramel sauce over the top, if desired, right before serving.
  • Serve immediately with sliced apples, or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

Let the cream cheese soften fully at room temperature, about 30 minutes, before starting — this is the biggest factor in whether the dip turns out smooth or lumpy. Use a good-quality caramel sauce since there's no cooking to deepen the flavor further. Slice apples just before serving, or toss them in a little lemon juice if prepping ahead, since they brown quickly once cut. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days; let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before serving again, or stir in a splash of warm water to loosen it.
